Healthcare facilities are focused around Furness General Hospital.

Manufacturing accounts for a significant amount of employment - Furness has some world class systems integration and manufacturing firms delivering products all over the globe. Our shipyard produces the most complex manufactured product on the planet - a nuclear powered submarine. Furness is also the home of Andrex and Kleenex tissue manufacturing by Kimberly-Clark, and a considerable amount of the UK's natural gas flows ashore here. Around 50 companies are involved in electronics including solid state lighting development with many of the firms in the sector supplying defence, oil and gas and consumer electronics markets worldwide.
Furness has an ever broadening service sector which includes national operators such as Liberata, Consumer Direct Service for the North West of England, Barrow Travel's cruise business and the headquarters of The Furness Building Soceity all located in Barrow-in-Furness.
Furness also appeals to entrepreneurs, newly qualified graduates and young professionals seeking a career within a different high quality environment with many opportunities for bringing up a family.
Barrow is a 'Gateway to the Lakes and the Sea', with some great tourist attractions.
South Lakes Wild Animal Park attracts around 250,000 visitors annually.
The Dock Museum, Barrow tells the history of Barrow's shipbuilding and offers gallery space to local artists and schoolchildren.
If it is shopping you want then Portland Walk Shopping Centre, Barrow, Dalton Road, Cavendish Street, Crellin Street and adjacent streets offer shoppers a wide choice of shopping in national multiple stores and independent retailers. Barrow's designer shops such as Gee's, Studio 82 and Pure in Ulverston stand alongside Marks and Spencer and Debenhams as the town's most popular shops.
The Forum 28 Arts Centre features local and national production of plays, musicals and ballet as well as classes in ballroom dancing which are extremely popular.
There are plenty of cafes and rastuarants with cuisine ranging from Italian, through to Indian and Mexican.
Hollywood Park is a leisure facility with restaurants and shops, the Apollo cinema and the Nuffield Health Club which as well as a gym boasts an indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna.
Barrow's retail parks are Asda Walney Road Retail Park where Stollers Furniture World, MFI and Matalan are located and Cornerhouse Park with Tesco Extra, Halfords and Homebase. A new retail park on Hindpool Road featuers B & Q and JB Sports health club and sportswear shop which boasts a high tech gym, a variety of exercise studios, swimming pool, sauna and spa.
Nearby Ulverston market town acts as the "Gateway town for Furness" it is complemented by Dalton in Furness.
Furness has a wide range of educational facilities ranging from nursery education,primary to secondary schools including some of the highest performing schools in the country. Furness has a new Academy in Barrow for 11-16 year old students and a large scale re-development of Furness College is about to commence.
You’re never more than a short journey away from where you want to be, if you live and work in Furness.The area is served by the Furness rail network which links into the west coast main line. The good A590 Trunk Road links to the M6. Historic market towns dramatic countryside, sandy beaches, historic homes, castles or country houses, theatres, museums or galleries are all here.
All in all, Furness is a great place to live and work.
